Adoption
Policies and Procedures
The
staff at the Lake Martin Humane Society want to make your visit a rewarding
and informative time. Please feel free to ask any questions you may
have and to let us know of your concerns. We are here to serve you.
Adopting
a new pet is a major undertaking and should be well thought out and
planned. Our staff will assist you in any way possible to help you make
your choice of a new family pet. Unless we have the registration or
medical paperwork for an animal, we cannot guarantee the breed, age,
temperament or health of the animal you may adopt.
If
you wish to adopt a pet, the following procedures should be followed:
- All
prospective adopters have to fill out questionnaire.
(Adobe Acrobat Required for Questionnaire - Download
Adobe Acrobat Free!)
- Animals
will only be placed with adults of legal age to be kept primarily
as household pets.
- Only
healthy, non vicious animals will be offered for adoption.
- Puppies
and kittens must be at least four months old before they will placed
in a home with children under the age of six years..
- All
adult cats and dogs must be surgically sterilized within two weeks
of the date of adoption (the cost of the surgery is included in the
adoption fee). Kittens and puppies must have this done at six months
of age.
- An
animal that has been adopted from the LMHS and is found to be unhealthy
or otherwise unsuitable as a family pet may be traded in for another
pet if brought back within seven days of date of adoption.
- Fees
are considered donations and are not refundable.

for adoption.
Tune
in to the "Dog Gone Report" on WZLM radio, (Z97) every weekday
