Lake Martin Humane Society Animal Control

With the enforcement of the Leash Law in Alexander City beginning on March 4, 1998, the responsibility for Animal Control has been handed over to our newly appointed Animal Control Officer, as well as the back-up he should receive from other law enforcement officers on the scene.

Ken Vernon, an animal lover all his life, started as an Assistant Animal Control Officer and is now Sergeant. Before beginning his new job, Ken completed a training course for animal control officers and has been provided with the most modern, state of the art equipment for controlling potentially dangerous situations involving animals. Serving with Ken as Animal Control Officer is Alfred Leroy Johnson.

To date (January-August, 1998), of the 1931 animals brought to the Shelter, Animal Control has brought in 532 of them - with a third of these being cats.

To report a complaint, you can call Ken at the Alex City Police Department at 234-3421.
