Lake Martin Humane Society Shelter Services

Manager Kim Kerr has been with the Shelter for over 13 years.

Kim keeps the shelter clean and running smoothly. Kim schedules tours and programs for visiting youth groups (Scouts, Camp Fire, etc.), and schedule activities for the volunteers who come to help exercise, groom or just provide a little extra TLC for our Shelter residents.

Happy DogHealthy, friendly animals are offered for adoption to good homes. Adoption fees, which include the cost of having the pet spayed or neutered, range from $25 for male cats to $45 for female dogs. All pets adopted from the LMHS Shelter are required to be spayed or neutered as a condition of their being adopted. Local veterinarians work closely with us to provide this discounted spay/neuter surgery to all pets adopted from LMHS.

Services Provided to the Community by LMHS
Shelter policy states that no animal will be turned away...although on rare occasions when the shelter is overflowing, we may ask a pet owner who is turning in his own animal to wait a few days until there is room.

The shelter does not pick up animals (This service is provided by the City Animal Control Officer) but will accept any animal brought to us. EXCEPTION: Animals that are under observation for suspected rabies, however, cannot be housed at the shelter and must, by law, be under the care of a licensed veterinarian.)

We are the official care facility for all animals picked up by the City Animal Control Officer. Unofficially, we also serve as the shelter for Tallapoosa County, as well as parts of Coosa & Elmore counties.

We serve as a clearing house for lost & found pets throughout the area.

We provide publicity and encourage public awareness of the problems of pet overpopulation, give shelter tours to youth groups and others, and work to educate pet owners about the importance of being RESPONSIBLE PET OWNERS.
